Cedar Park’s Youth in Action Group of Free the Children has just reached a remarkable milestone: it has now contributed over $100,000 to Free the Children projects, a total of $100,873.65! The $6,806 sent to Free the Children in December, raised through the sale of Living Gifts and a Community Night at Dix Mille Villages, was designated for the Free the Children school complex in Dos Palais, Haiti. Together with the amount raised at the Haitian dinner in October, the group’s contribution to this project is now over $11,000.
In addition, last year the group contributed $9,174.36 to a project supporting talibé street children in Saint Louis, Senegal, responding to a situation of horrendous human rights abuse (www.mdgsl.com).
The group has benefited from the incredible contributions of its youth leaders in achieving this result. Kim Fortin has provided amazing leadership this year, supported by Talia Erdan and Sana Badruddin. Kim and Talia have both been inspired by Me to We trips to Kenya, Kim this last summer and Talia the year before. And many dozens of youth members have made dedicated contributions to the group over the years. Inspired by Free the Children, they realize they can truly make a difference in the world.
