OH WHAT A NIGHT!!
If you weren’t at the Opening Night of Cedar Park Coffee House’s 10th Anniversary Season, you don’t know what you missed! We had an audience who took the invitation to come in costume quite seriously – there was Capt. Morgan, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, we had Igor, some kind of Sasquatch or Yeti, a witch, Johnny Jellybean (or at least his bowtie) and many others.
Then there was the entertainment. Richard Bastien and Richard Buche, known as “A Little R&R†were wonderful! They got the spirit moving in the room, got folks up and dancing to a set comprised of 50’s and 60’s Rock, including a sensational version of “The Monster Mashâ€, which had everyone in stitches. After a brief intermission, we brought “The Echo Hunters†to our stage for the very first time. What a treat! You can tell they’ve been together for nigh on 25 years – the camaraderie just leaps across the footlights and touches the audience in a profound way. Each and every one of them is a master musician. They perform is all original compositions with one exception: a Penny Lang number, which they dedicated to the great lady of folk. They ended their set with “Lay Down Your Arms†which they dedicated to the two soldiers that lost their lives over the last 2 weeks. Silence…then deafening applause and a Standing O! So well deserved and we reluctantly let them slip away into the night in the hope that they will return to us one day soon.
