“Dealing with the 100% Certaintyâ€
On October 17, nearly 30 people gathered at Cedar Park United to learn about end-of-life issues. In partnership with the Family Life Centre, Stéphanie Côté of Voluntas, together with Cedar Park’s Rev. Elisabeth Jones led the workshop. The 100% Certainty presentation by Reverend Elisabeth Jones and Stéphanie Coté of Voluntas commémoration inc. held at Cedar Park United Church on October 17 was exceptionally enlightening about critical ‘end of life’ issues and funeral planning. The excellent information, handouts and provocative audience questions prompted me to share this information with my husband later the same day. Up to now, we have skirted around discussing funeral planning. Even though we are now seniors, we still think we will live forever!
Knowing the person’s wishes for the type of funeral, having a will, a mandate, power of attorney, where important documents are stored etc., ensures less stress during an emotional time for those having to deal with the loss of a loved one. We plan for a career, a wedding, buying property, having a child; so why do we avoid planning for the 100% certainty, our departure?
Cedar Park intends to offer further such learning opportunities in the future, and is thankful for the rich and gentle expertise that Stephanie Côté brought to the discussion.
