Social Justice

We’re engaged with our denomination in its commitment to become an anti-racist denomination (United Church of Canada’s commitment).

That means that we’re also committed to the work of reconciliation with Canada’s First Nations and share a territorial acknowledgement each Sunday in worship.

We’re committed as a congregation to the work of supporting refugeed people, and supporting organizations that work for their safety and inclusion in Canadian society.

Through our food security ministries, we’re engaged in various acts to support access to healthy food, particularly among elders and families at risk.

We’re committed to living our faith through social justice and action.

Sandwich-making with Bread and Beyond

After our Youth Spirit Questers made 200 sandwiches for Bread and Beyond to distribute to people experiencing homelessness, we decided to support this amazing organization more as a congregation this fall. It is such a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

We’ll be starting off our programming year on September 10 with a sandwich-making session, and doing another on on Thanksgiving Sunday, October 12.

You (and anyone you’d like to invite to join in!) are invited to let us know how you can support this effort: by making the sandwiches themselves, being the Costco shopper/deliverer for the supplies, making personal notes to include with the sandwiches or donating to cover the costs.

Comfort care packs for unhoused people you may meet

Create a few of these kits using our step-by-step guide and keep one in your car (or your backpack) as you go about your day. You never know when you might be able to make a person’s day by giving one to them.
