Creation Season 2023
Throughout September until October 15, we’ll be focusing on the wonder of Creation and our place as creatures within it. We are called by God to tend and nurture Earth for the well-being of all Creation, not just humanity. Scroll down to see when and how you may want to participate:
➤ Sunday, September 10: You’re invited to regather in the Cedar Park United sanctuary (or online) to worship God as Creator of a Good Creation. Our worship will not just celebrate Creation’s wonder, but will also reframe our relationship to planetary creation as members within it, rather than masters over it. Our worship leader will be Paul Clarke.
You can also sign up to serve our neighbours after worship at 11:30 by making sandwiches in the CPU kitchen in collaboration with Bread and Beyond.
➤ Saturday, September 16: Everyone and their neighbour is invited to the Longest Table Community Get-Together as we eat under the trees and celebrate the wideness of welcome. You can RSVP to participate here.
➤ Sunday, September 17, our 10 AM worship will focus on the question, Who will care for Creation? Our worship leader will again be Paul Clarke.
➤ Sunday, September 24, Rev. Beryl Barraclough will lead our worship as we ponder our relationship with Creation as Beloved Community. This is also Orange Shirt Sunday— we are all encouraged to wear an orange shirt to show our commitment to reconciliation with our First Nations siblings.
Later that afternoon, from 3 to 5 PM, you’re invited to an Equinox Spirit Exploration in the Backyard Oasis, led by Joanne Kalan and others. Let us know you’ll be there.
➤ Sunday, October 1, World Wide Communion: This will be a shared WIRUC cluster worship at Riverside United in Rosemère. Watch the WIRUC website for information. Note: There will be no worship at Cedar Park United (onsite or online) on October 1.
➤ Sunday, October 8, Thanksgiving Sunday: We’ll reflect on giving thanks with a special worship message from Kirstie Jagoe, founding director of Bread and Beyond.
After worship, we’ll have the opportunity to put our gratitude into action by making another round sandwiches for our neighbours experiencing homelessness. You can sign up to help here. What a way to live out our thanksgiving!
➤ Sunday, October 15: Rev. Cathy Hamilton will lead our final Creation Season worship as we reflect on God’s “Eco”nomy.
