Lent 2024

Journeying through Lent to Easter

AGAIN & AGAIN

A Lenten refrain—and an invitation to practise Lent*

We encounter sin, suffering and brokenness in the world, and in ourselves, again and again

We find our faith faltering again and again, people let us down, again and again

But also, through the Lenten Scriptures, we hear another voice saying “Again and again”; it is God’s voice, choosing to seek us out, find us, lead us back to wholeness, again and again.

Those of us who have lived a few or more decades often wonder what there is that’s new to be learned in our spiritual journeys, but, again and again, these sacred stories, when they intersect with our brokenness, offer blessing and healing.

There’s something deep to discover in repeating Lenten rituals, of lament and forgiveness, of works of mercy and belonging…. that repetition of practices of wholeness and recovery can help build new neural pathways, and with 46 days to practise Lent, again and again, who knows?

We may find ourselves to be more anchored in the “again” of God’s life amongst us.
