Longest Table FAQ

  • "Long Table" events grew out of the desire to gather people (often strangers as well as friends) over a meal, to create space for genuine connection. (You can read about some here and here.)

Last year, after our long COVID isolation from one another, we’d been longing for the opportunity to reconnect, to rekindle a sense of community and to make new connections within our neighbourhood. So we decided it was time for us to "set the longest table" and welcome EVERYONE in the neighbourhood, and ANYONE who’s connected to CPU, for whatever reason.

It was so lovely, we’ve decided to do it again this year!

  • If you’re connected to the Cedar Park United communities in any way, this invitation is for you! (Only humans, though—no pets this time, please).

If your kids attend Les Petits Anges, if you live in the neighbourhood, if you worship with us online or onsite, if you pick up your kids from Clearpoint School, if you come to Mini Connections or Line Dancing or Voices for Hope, if you use our building space, if you walk past 204 Lakeview every day—you’re invited.

And you can bring family, or a friend or a neighbour along with you!

  • Bring your own Saturday supper (take-out, home cooked, whatever) and a bit to share with those around you, along with your picnic dishes and cutlery.

We’ll set up the tables and chairs, roll out the brown paper and provide water and baguette and some salad from our garden.

  • If you like, you can bring some flowers from your garden to decorate your part of the table.

And if you have any battery-powered candles, bring those for when we create the flame-less campfire together!

To keep it welcoming for everybody, we’re choosing not to have alcohol or pets at this event.

  • Yes. We'll provide the Longest Table (and chairs) and our warmest welcome! You just bring your food and yourself.

  • Absolutely! You come when you can, stay as long as you want, and leave when you need to.

Here’s the schedule to help you plan:

4:30 Welcome, games and activities on the front lawn

    5:00 THE MEAL!

6:15 - 7:00 Discoveries around the CPU grounds

7:00 - 7:30 Closing around the flame-less campfire on the labyrinth

  • For anybody who’s curious to explore, the Discoveries from 6:15 to 7:00 will include an opportunity for children to play some garden games and make a simple craft, and to explore our outdoor space, where we’ve done a lot of garden work over the past year.

  • If it rains we'll simply move the event indoors to the Community Hall and Sanctuary space.

We really want to gather again and rain won't stop us!
