What is Vacation Creation Camp 2023?
This Vacation Creation Camp will go all summer on the grounds of Cedar Park United (because Creation needs care all summer).
At its essence, it’s a creative way to ensure that together as a community, we keep the veggies we’re growing healthy and happy all summer. (So no, you won’t be asked to mow the lawn!)
Who can be a Creation Counsellor?
You, me, anyone from the neighbourhood who would like to participate!
Young children can participate as Junior Creation Counsellors with their caregivers
Seniors from the community can participate as Senior Creation Counsellors
When you register, you’ll get to choose a week (or weeks) during the summer when you can be “on staff” to care for the Campers.
Who are the Campers?
The veggies we’re growing for the West Island Mission in the Courtyard “Cabin”,
The veggies and Children’s Garden flowers in the Backyard Oasis “Cabin”
The herbs along the Walkway “Cabin”
The Three Sisters planting in the centre of the Healing Garden “Cabin.”
Linden, the Community Prayer Tree
The Campers’ neighbours—the trees and plants and flowers and bees and butterflies and birds and squirrels—will appreciate your care, too!
How often will the Campers need to be watered?
Use the weather and your own garden as a guide!
If it’s a super hot week, you’ll need to come more often.
If it’s a cool and rainy week, you can come less often.
Invite a friend to register, too, so you can team up and share your week.
What if my plans change?
We understand! That’s why it’s important for you to register, so we can give you all the information you need, including phone numbers of people to contact in case your availability changes.
Are there any special camp events over the summer?
Yes! To build community and have fun together, we’ve scheduled three Vacation Creation Camp gatherings:
Friday, July 14: A Meet-the-Campers Creation Craft and Campfire evening
Friday, August 18: An outdoor evening of fun with the Campers in the Backyard Oasis
Sunday, September 3: A late-afternoon closing picnic, with prizes for the campers
When is the Creation Counsellor training session?
On Sunday, June 11 at 11:30 AM. Joanne Kalan and Martha Randy will be offering a Creation Counsellor training session starting under the trees by the “Labyrinth Cabin.” Bring a lunch and your curiosity!
And what if I can’t make the training event…?
Rest assured—you can still participate! Once you register, you’ll be given access to the Creation Counsellor Facebook Group where we’ll be sharing the training video and link to the Creation Counsellor digital guide.
