Many of us have been moved by the actions of ordinary people in Minneapolis and other US cities to protect their neighbours in the face of ICE raids. We have also seen communities strengthened by the simple practice of singing together.
As we approach the season of Lent, we’re inviting our neighbours to drop by CPU during the Wednesday lunch hour as we raise our voices together – in solidarity with Minneapolis, yes, but in solidarity with each other, too, with those in our community who are trying to make a difference. What can one person do about the state of the world? It may not seem like much. But the more we come together – be it to cook, to sing, to organize – the stronger, the more connected, the readier we are.
You don’t need musical experience to come, and no one’s going to judge your singing. If you like the sound of this, come. Sing, hum, clap along - whatever feels right. We just want to offer our neighbourhood the opportunity to experience the joy of singing together in a group. Bring your brown bag lunch if you want and stay to chat. Who knows what could grow from this?
