Hercules, Star Wars, Ozone Holes, and the Ascension of Jesus (Acts 1: 1-11)

On this sixth Sunday in Easter, we encounter a text that is unfamiliar and strange: it tells of the “ascension of Jesus.” It is the moment in the grand Gospel story when everything that Jesus was and did in the world becomes OUR work and calling. What might happen if we really lived into this calling, right now, in this moment, in this world?
